Teiler calculator: from centre distance to decimal score

A Teiler is the distance between the centre of the shot hole and the centre of the target, measured in hundredths of a millimetre. A Teiler of 100 is exactly one millimetre off centre — the smaller the number, the better the shot.

Teiler → decimal score and ring

Decimal score → Teiler

Calculated from the ISSF target dimensions (rule 6.3.4) and decimal scoring (rule 6.3.3.1), with a 4.5 mm projectile for air guns and 5.6 mm for smallbore. A shot exactly on the boundary scores the higher value.

How to read the table: on the air rifle target each decimal zone is 25 Teiler wide — a shot with a Teiler of 60 scores 10.7 (up to 75), one with 251 only 9.9. On the air pistol and 50m rifle targets it is 80 Teiler per tenth, because the rings there are 8 mm apart instead of 2.5 mm.

Teiler and decimals from your own result

Shotmetrix reads rings, decimals and Teiler straight from the printout of the scoring machine or the QR code of the electronic range — and shows where the shots land: shot pattern, group size and the direction of the outliers. Frequently asked

What is a Teiler in target shooting?
A Teiler is the distance between the centre of the shot hole and the centre of the target, measured in hundredths of a millimetre. A Teiler of 100 is exactly one millimetre off centre; the smaller the Teiler, the better the shot. It is used mainly in German-speaking countries.
How do you convert a Teiler into a score?
On the air rifle target each decimal zone is 25 Teiler wide: up to 25 the shot scores 10.9, up to 250 still 10.0, up to 500 a 9.0. On the air pistol and 50m rifle targets it is 80 Teiler per tenth: up to 80 a 10.9, up to 800 a 10.0.
Can air rifle and air pistol Teiler be compared?
Not directly: the rings of the air pistol target are 3.2 times as wide (8 mm instead of 2.5 mm). An air pistol Teiler of 320 is worth the same decimal score as an air rifle Teiler of 100 — both a 10.6. Which factor a prize shoot applies is set in its announcement.
How is a Teiler measured?
Usually by machine: with a scoring machine that scans the shot paper target, or directly by an electronic target system. It cannot be determined to a hundredth of a millimetre by hand.
